Bradford College

Key facts & challenges

Summary
Bradford College has invested £50million in the creation of a new campus building - The David Hockney Building. The six-storey, 23,000m2 structure will replace two existing buildings to provide a cutting-edge learning environment. Named after one of the UK's most famous artists, the design brief was to create a light and airy space that would be sympathetic to the area's architectural heritage. Bond Bryan Architects and BAM Construction were appointed to deliver the design and build, but with cradle access on site a problem, an innovative solution was sought at the tender stage to ensure the build remained on schedule.

Installation Description
"Compared to cement particle board, Weather Defence is 30% lighter, faster to work with and has advanced technical performance. We ultimately have a board with greater benefits but at the same price".
Installation
Cradle access on to site was unavailable until 6 weeks into the build schedule. Siniat and BAM worked in partnership at the tender stage and proposed that Siniat [Weather Defence™](https://www.siniat.co.uk/en-gb/products-and-systems/products/external-boards/weather-defence/) would be applied to the interior steel frame system. This eliminated the access issue and enabled the building to be protected on the inside, which progressed the drylining and kept the build on schedule in challenging weather conditions. Siniat Weather Defence was then installed to the external facade.

Impact
"We're very proud of the investment we've made in the new David Hockney Building. Amalgamating two of our Campus sites into one campus has huge advantages for our teaching staff and 20,000+ students. As teaching and learning styles innovate as does the need to provide environments that encourage this. Our new building delivers exactly that, from new group learning areas and innovative, high safety science labs to curriculum specific facilities such as our sound proofed TV recording studio and beauty salons. It's a really exciting time for us the College and the City and I we can't wait to see our students flourish."
