In 1974, two passionate doctors from Philadelphia came up with the idea of building 'a home away from home' for the parents of sick children. The doctors had witnessed families spending night after night in discomfort at hospital whilst their children received medical care, and knew there had to be a better way.
Today, thanks to the support of Ronald McDonald House Charities, there are ,now hundreds of Ronald McDonald houses located close to specialist children's hospitals across the world.
On 14 October, 2015, the first Ronald McDonald House in Poland was built next to the University Children's Hospital in Krakow - Prokocim. Family-owned, the house features 20 modern rooms for more than 40 people, including a large kitchen, dining room, laundry and living room. All designed to enable parents to support their children during prolonged stays in hospital.
